I was driving some friends in my Russian car (Lada-2109) for an evening fishing expedition not far outside of Perm on the Chusovaya River. One of my friends asked a general question for everyone in the car: "What is the purpose of the rear window defroster in a Russian car?".
The answer: To keep your hands warm when you are pushing it.

Regardless of the Weather
While watching the local news in Perm, Russia yesterday evening I was enlightened by the following statement, "The heat will be turned on October 1st, regardless of the weather."
We will not be swayed in our decision making by public opinion or well, even the weather!
Here in my flat, I am completely dependent on this decision because the heat comes from a central location in the neighborhood. So far, we're just layering the blankets at night and doing quite fine. Won't be surprised by a heat wave in October- just in time for the heat to be turned on!
Keep an eye on the weather gizmo on the upper right (above the eyeball) to see how little the weather affects decision making.
